In Studio: Niko & Giovanni

06.20.23

Who says cats and dogs can't get along? Everyone meet Niko and Giovanni! These two are the first babies I was honoured to shoot indoors with my new studio gear. Niko is a senior Morkie at the age of fourteen (14). He has a beautiful coat of brown and black hair with big brown eyes filled with love. Giovanni is three (3) years old and was a rescue kitten chosen by his fur mommy and was welcomed into his forever home in 2020. Unfortunately, because he was a rescue we are unsure of his official cat breed. What I can tell you is that he is a domestic long-haired cat with orange spots and piercing green and yellow eyes.

Since this was my first solo indoor photoshoot I had some difficulties setting up the lighting however I live and learn and to my surprise, the pictures came out adorable.

Niko was such a treat to have in front of my camera. He posed easily and didn’t fight sitting in front of the lights which I thought could be an issue, especially for a dog his age. At times I could tell he was getting a little antsy but luckily for me, Niko’s mom was there to help keep him calm. Standing in front of my white backdrop Niko and his multi-coloured coat stood out so beautifully, making my job a little easier to focus on and even easier to edit his photos.

Giovanni is certainly a character, he adores his family, showing them affection, and asking them for pets, and he loves to play. Throughout my setup and time with his brother, Giovanni was lurking around every corner to see what was going on. However, when it came time to sit and pose he was not interested, to say the least. He is my first cat to photograph without his human in the shot with him. This gave me difficulties because he did not sit want to sit for l managed to get some nice pictures of him. I had the most fun editing his photos, cutting him out and placing him on silly backgrounds. They made me giggle.

Thank you to the Panzica family for welcoming me into your home and allowing me to take up space in your living room for my studio gear. I had a wonderful time photographing and playing with Niko and Giovanni, I hope to be back soon.
